The agricultural holding Forteto della Luja was handed down to the present owner, Giovanni Scaglione, through the materna! family of his father Giancarlo. The farm first ap-pears in the land registers in 1826, but the stone wine cellars and some of the farm build-ings date from the end of the eighteenth century. Until 1985, the vineyards produced grapes for sale to locai vintners and only a small quantity of wine was made. The name of the winery, Forteto della Luja, derives from the name of the woodlands traversed by the Rio Luja that surround the vineyards. Since 20 07, the vineyards have been an affiliate WWF Oasis and in 2011 they became a Didactic Centre of the Università di Scienze Gastronomiche di Pollenza. Often described as the ‘people’s wine’ of Pemonte it is a highly versatile variety capable of styles running from the very light and fruity to the substantial and complex. A distinctive characteristic of Barbera is its quite high levels of acidity that make a consummate wine to accompany food.

A bright and bright ruby red color. On the nose it is distinctive and persuasive, with notes of red fruits typical of the terroir. On the palate it stands out for the characteristics of fruit and vinosity, but even more for the enveloping and velvety body.

Drunk young, it is a wine suitable for all meals, particularly suitable with vegetable soups, light meats and Italian pasta; drunk in subsequent years, it is a wine that goes well with roasts, stews and cheeses.
