Description

Twice named best winemaker in the world by the IWSC. Kanonkop named on four occasions best winery in South Africa by the IWSC, its Pinotage is especially fêted at home and internationally. In 2017, Beeslaar Pinotage chosen as the best red wine in South Africa by Tim Atkin MW. Aged for 20 months in 30 French Oak and 2 American Oak barrels, this wine has a deep ruby red colour. Abrie Beeslaar has been making his own Pinotage since 2012 and it’s already achieved iconic status, produced from a special old block of bush-vines planted on shale close to Kanonkop, where Abrie is the winemaker. 2017 was the third consecutive drought year in the Cape winelands, producing small berries with great fruit concentration, and being hailed as one of the greatest modern vintages.

TASTING NOTES
Concentrated aromas of black cherries, Christmas cake, wild strawberries, plums and cinnamon spice. The nose has that typical Beeslaar perfumed character, with an underlying earthy tone. Beautifully poised and elegant, with fine tannins to support the broad, plush fruit spectrum. The palate is mouth-filling and effortlessly balanced, with lingering savoury notes on the finish.

FOOD PAIRINGS
Wintry stews like the one-pot South African potjies, classic South African braai, smoked duck, pulled pork or chilli con carne
