The history of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard dates back to the 14th century when the papacy, then settled in Avignon, chose Châteauneuf-du-Pape as its summer residence. The seven successive Popes encouraged wine production and developed the vineyard. The Mestre Family is among the oldest in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Its members have been cultivating the vines there for several generations and have passed down the vineyard from generation to generation. Monique and Jean Claude Mestre created their own vineyard with part of the vines from the Côteau de l’Ange in the sixties and took over the family brand.

The wine is a chewy Châteauneuf with smoky roasted meat character, black cherries, and kirsch, pepper, herbs (bay leaf, rosemary) glycerine fruit. Rich, deep and generous, with a compelling sweetness of fruit and a lush, pliant texture. Finishes with firm but sweet tannins and a note of dark chocolate.

Lamb Tagine, Shepherds Pie, or Moussaka
