Description

In 1979 the Torres family purchased 100 hectares of vineyard in Maquehua, San Francisco Norte, and Cordillera, together with a winery in the Curicó Valley. Miguel Torres brought with him his family’s long tradition of wine-making and over 140 years of company history. The Chilean Central Valley has an ideal climate for top-quality viticulture. This Phylloxera-free region is dominated by the presence of the Andes, their peaks crowned with permanent snow. The difference in temperatures between day and night provides the optimum conditions for the development of the grapes and increases their ability to retain their finest aromas.Cordillera Carménère has its origin in the famous Terroir of Peumo in the Cachapoal Valley. The vineyard is on a foothill, on granite soils of colluvial origin with a clay loam texture and the presence of stones, offering very good drainage and low fertility. This is ideal for controlling vigor and obtaining very limited production of an excellent Carménère.

TASTING NOTES

Great depth of colour. The nose offers a splendid and potent expression of the character of Carménère (forest fruit, eucalyptus, and leather), with toasty notes of bay leaf and clove, as well as licorice and black pepper. A big, mouth-filling palate with round tannins. Aromas of toasted bread and spices on retronasal, culminating in a long finish.

FOOD PAIRINGS

This great wine is the ideal companion for roast lamb or pig as well as meats cooked over coals and spiced with aromatic herbs and licorice.
