Description

Six perfectly curated wines for a complete Christmas Day:

Pewley Downs English Sparkling Rosé
Local and divine! This Sparkling Rosé has a persistent mousse of fine bubbles and complex fruit flavours. The wine is excellent as an aperitif and goes well with lobster and other meatier kinds of fish; it is first class for celebrations of all kinds and makes any occasion special.

Chablis Vieilles Vignes Domaine Alexandre

The old vines used to make this wine allow for a greater depth of concentration of fruit and flavour. Exotic hints of white nectarine and freshly cut melon. Ripe, concentrated and lingering, this is top notch White Burgundy. Enjoy with smoked salmon blinis.

Vouvray Sec Domain Champalou

Didier and Catherine Champalou established their 20 hectare estate in Vouvray in 1984. They grow exclusively Chenin Blanc grapes and are among the leading producers in the town. Didier tends the vines and Catherine oversees the cellar. Their wines are stunning – harmonious, restrained and a true reflection of the terroir. Aromas of green apples and quince. Dry, supple and elegant on the palate with further green fruit notes. The crisp finish makes this an ideal match for your Turkey on Christmas Day.

Château Grandis Haut Medoc

Château Grandis is a small, relatively unheard of estate of just 10 hectares run by Brice Vergez. Brice and his father before him François-Joseph have deliberately chosen to keep the estate small in order to tend their vineyards as much by hand as possible. It has been ‘Cru Bourgeois’ since 1932. On the nose, showing a lot of tertiary cedar, tobacco and leather. In the mouth notes of cassis, black plum, blackberries and dark chocolate. Pairs well with steak entrecôte or roast leg of lamb with rosemary and garlic.

Sauternes Chateau Lamourette (37.5cl)

Located less than 1km from legendary Chateau D’Yquem, this domaine has been in the family since 1860, with the first bottling taking place in 1919, and has subsequently passed from mother to daughter. The current owner, Anne-Marie Leglise, took over in 1980. A tiny domaine, covering only 10 hectares, this is a truly artisan estate. A sweet, delicate wine which retains its freshness and works well with the classic combination of foie gras and fruity and nutty deserts.

Graham’s Late Bottled Vintage Port

Graham’s LBV is deep purple in colour with an intense garnet edge. The wine offers enticing aromas of red and black fruits with some lovely mint and eucalyptus notes. It is generous on the palate, with Graham’s typical opulence, revealing delicious blackberry fruit underscored by ripe, polished tannins, which give the wine great freshness and vitality. This Port pairs wonderfully with dark chocolate desserts as well as semi-cured and cured cheeses like Cheddar and Manchego.
