Description

Nestled under the southern foothills of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, Clos Henri is the 96-hectare wine estate meticulously established in March 2001and organically run by the famous Sancerre wine growing family of Henri Bourgeois. Gathering 10 generations of know-how with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, the family have broadened their horizons and continue to craft exceptional wines in New Zealand. From the three different soil types of the estate, partially comprised of a hill slope, the family uses the best of French and New World winegrowing techniques to capture the essence of Marlborough’s intense character and reveal the identity of the Clos Henri terroir. Historically a sheep station, the virgin land was untouched by ploughs, fertilisers or much human interference. The Bourgeois undertook a lengthy process of reviving the soil by planting nutrient-rich legumes and crops to adjust the slight nutrient deficiencies their vines would need prior to the first plantings in August 2001.

TASTING NOTES

Freshly squeezed cherries and plums, our Petit Clos Pinot Noir is flush with abundant aromas of dark red fruits with a liquorice undercurrent. Exuberant and densely concentrated, the lively palate has notes of
cherry liqueur and macerated plums which are all bound together with firm, textural tannins.
