Why we love it
Finesse, nuance, elegance and ethereality combine in Luminous Hills’ most complete, complex and layered Pinot Noir.
Tasting notes
Ruby red in colour. Red fruits and floral notes on the nose. On the palate, exceptionally well-balanced fruit, intense depth and complexity and a lingering fresh finish.
Food pairing
Perfect with lamb cutlets or lighter meats such as venison, rabbit and duck.
Additional information
Luminous Hills Vineyard, located in the south-west of the Yamhill-Carlton District American Viticultural Area, is a high-elevation site with the typical sedimentary soils of the area, as well as a significant area of Jory volcanic soil. These two diverse soil types, along with a variety of carefully selected clones of Pinot Noir, result in several distinct expressions of Pinot Noir.
The Very Special Reserve blend is one of the maker’s smallest production wines, and is made only in exceptional vintages (like 2021) and only if there are enough top-tier barrels to build a top-level reserve wine without detracting from the quality and character of the other wines.
The dominant clone for the Very Special Reserve blend is the 115 clone, planted on sedimentary soil at the base of the vineyard, which provides structure, richness and depth. The 777 clone, planted on higher-elevation volcanic soil, plays a supporting role, contributing balancing red-fruit and floral notes. Just 49 cases were produced.
