Why we love it
A classic Spanish red from the cradle of Rioja – fresh and smooth with balanced acidity.

Tasting notes
Ruby red in colour. The nose is intense with aromas of ripe black fruit giving way to notes of balsamic, caramel, vanilla and chocolate. Fresh and balanced on the palate with soft tannins.

Food pairing
Pair with steak, gourmet burgers or a rack of lamb.

Additional information
The grapes come from the maker’s own vineyards in the municipality of Haro. The blend is 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo. The vineyards are calcareous clay and situated at an altitude of between 430 and 500 metres above sea level. The wine takes its name from the fossil shells found in the subsoil from when the region was under the sea.

The alcoholic and malolactic fermentation took place naturally in American oak. The wine was then aged for 24 months in American-oak barrels, with six manual rackings during the ageing process. It was bottled in 2016.
