Why we love it
A powerful modern Rioja – a wine defined by its balance, intensity, aromatic quality and maturity.
Tasting notes
Cherry red in colour with a violet rim. An intense nose with aromas of black fruit (blackberries, damsons and currants) merging with notes of cloves, white pepper, liquorice and cedar. Fresh and balanced on the palate with polished tannins.
Food pairing
Pair with sausages or red-meat stews.
Additional information
Created on the 125th anniversary of Martínez Lacuesta, the wine is a tribute to the Madrid branch, which has been in operation since 1904 and was for more than 50 years located at 18 Carmen Street (as depicted in the wine label).
The Tempranillo grapes come from vines with an average age of 50 years in the maker’s calcareous-clay-soil vineyards around Haro.
The alcoholic and malolactic fermentation took place in French oak. The wines was then aged for 12 months in French-oak barrels, with three manual rackings during the ageing process.
