Why we love it
A lovely white Burgundy combining the typical richness of Mâconnais with elegance and minerality.
Tasting notes
Straw yellow in colour. A beautifully complex nose with notes of acacia, pear and quince. Rounded and powerful on the palate, with flavours of white-fleshed fruits, and a long mineral finish.
Food pairing
Drink with scallops or other seafood, or chicken in a cream sauce.
Additional information
Domaine Gondard-Perrin is a relatively new domaine having been created in 2008. The Gondard family have lived in the Mâconnais village of Viré for centuries and have been vine growers since 1981, but until 2007 were selling their grapes to the local co-op. However, because their vines produced grapes of such good quality, they decided that they deserved to be vinified separately. They therefore created their own domaine and started to vinify and bottle the wine themselves.
The grapes are from old vines (aged over 80 years old) on the clay-limestone slopes of Viré. Alcoholic fermentation was carried out with indigenous yeasts. The wine was aged on its fine lees in oak barrels for a minimum of 18 months.
