Description

Why we love it
A magnificently ripe claret with superb depth and length from a prestigious Pauillac estate – classic Bordeaux.

Tasting notes
Intense dark purple in colour. A complex nose with black and red fruits and an undercurrent of herbs, spices and the cedary element that is so characteristic of Pauillac. Powerful, smooth and vibrant on the palate with polished tannins and a long, fruit-dominant finish. Medium to full bodied.

Drink over the next two decades.

Food pairing
Serve with classic meat dishes.

Additional information
Château Pontet-Canet can trace its origins back to the 18th century when aristocrat Jean-François de Pontet gathered a few acres of land north of the village of Pauillac to create a vineyard and subsequently bought a property on the land called Canet. In the 1855 classification, Château Pontet-Canet was on the list of Grands Crus Classés of the Médoc.

In 1975, the estate was bought by Guy Tesseron, and it is now run by his son Alfred and granddaughter Justine. Pontet-Canet was the first renowned Bordeaux estate to embark on organic and biodynamic farming, and was also the first to obtain double certification on the entire vineyard within the Grands Crus Classés.

The blend of the 2015 vintage is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.
